About the club

The Deplorable Book Club Ltd is a UK private limited company — directors, filings, Companies House, the lot. Rory Hanrahan is founding director and owner (writer, publican, campaigner). Further board appointments are planned as the club grows; names will appear when they are real, not aspirational.

We exist for the unpublishables: authors who cannot get a fair hearing because their ideas are too sharp for the climate — historians, journalists, and thinkers on forgotten wars, cultural critique, and other subjects polite lists prefer to skip.

The goal is simple and unfashionable: a durable room for free speech. Readers get fresh, unfiltered work. Authors get editing, design, distribution help, and a community that markets them as seriously as their books.

Who it is for

Free-speech advocates, history obsessives, and cultural sceptics — the deplorables who already orbit outlets like The Spectator, UnHerd, The Telegraph, and Spiked. We are a complement to those worlds, not a rival book club with safer taste.

Tone

Sharp. Literate. Contrarian when the facts warrant it. We will not invent libel, and we will not pretend controversy is always wisdom — but we refuse the soft censorship that pretends difficult books do not exist.
